One inquiry was raised by Member S. Desroches Motorcycle Inquiry The Ottawa Police Service plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of residents. The OPS also has the unique priority of ensuring the success of ceremonial events and VIP events for the federal government, as the police service for Canada’s capital. This work is typically performed by the OPS Motorcycle Unit, which requires additional training and resources to support the federal government's security and protocol demands on the streets of Ottawa. This role is important, but as a service responsible for the safety of the residents in Ottawa, these federal duties should not come with increased expenses and less enforcement for Ottawa taxpayers. I would like the OPS to answer the following questions to assure that assisting the federal government is not taking away from core policing priorities our residents depend upon each day. If the number of hours cannot be calculated, identify other measures that can be used to demonstrate the resources dedicated to this work? From 2023 to 2025, what is the total number of hours of operation for the Ottawa Police Service motorcycle unit each year? How many of those hours were dedicated to each of the following: Training and operational needs Federal ceremonial or VIP events City traffic enforcement How much funding does the OPS receive from the Federal Government to compensate for the time spent by the motorcycle unit assisting the federal government’s needs and does the funding equal the costs associated with these events?  Does the time dedicated to VIP or ceremonial priorities, or the training required to assist with these events, reduce the hours that would have otherwise been spent on traffic enforcement?
