Inspector General’s Notice of Issue: The Increase in Antisemitic and Hate-Motivated Incidents
Executive Director's report That the Ottawa Police Service Board’s Policy and Governance Committee recommend that the Board: Direct the Executive Director to ensure that the consultations undertaken in 2027 for the development of the Board’s next Strategic Plan expressly address hate-motivated crimes and incidents, including antisemitism, and seek the perspectives of Jewish communities and other communities affected by hate in Ottawa. Direct the Chief of Police to provide a report to the Board, through the Policy and Governance Committee, on the mandate, capacity and operations of the Hate and Bias Crime Unit, current Service practices in relation to each of the seven actions identified in the Notice of Issue, and actions underway or planned. Direct the Executive Director, under the guidance of the Policy and Governance Committee and in consultation with the Ottawa Police Service, to review Board Policies LE-007 Hate/Bias Motivated Crime and LE-008 Hate Propaganda. Direct the Executive Director to arrange Board member training on contemporary antisemitism and other forms of hate, including the Board’s oversight responsibilities.
