Motion To: WHEREAS King Edward Avenue is an arterial road on which residents live; WHEREAS speed of traffic on King Edward is a persistent and dangerous issue; WHEREAS the vehicular speed causes constant noise and vibration in the houses of the nearby residents; WHEREAS lanes are unnecessarily wide due to historic transit use and pre-complete street cycling design methods; WHEREAS once LRT opens the STO busses will be taken off of King Edward Avenue; WHEREAS the truck tunnel would be a permanent solution; WHEREAS reducing the curb lanes width on King Edward Avenue north of Rideau St. would serve as a permanent calming measure and a road safety fix; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff identify options for permanent traffic calming measures on King Edward Avenue, including reducing the curb lanes width from 4.5 m to 3.5 m in both directions of King Edward Avenue north of Rideau St., including associated funding requirements, and report back to Transportation Committee.
