Motion To: That the Rules of Procedure be suspended to consider the following motion, so that the City’s position can be provided to the Province before the legislation is passed: WHEREAS Bill 148, Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 is currently being debated in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario; ?and, WHEREAS the City of Ottawa employs 485 volunteer firefighters, which represents 36 per cent of its firefighting force; and, WHEREAS the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), which supports the intent of Bill 148, has nevertheless raised concerns about the impacts of certain provisions on municipalities and has proposed a number of specific amendments: • An exemption for municipal and local board employees (including supervisory and managerial staff) who are required to be on call to provide statutory public safety services • An exemption for volunteer firefighters for on call provisions and equal pay to full-time firefighters • Specific reference that Bill 148 req
